Queries
  • What does the FREE SEARCH query index?

    Free search field indexes all those features of a single piece which are not specified by other search keys (genre, atmosphere, etc.). So:
    - the KEY WORDS associated to that piece;
    - the TITLE of the piece;
    - the text of the DESCRIPTON;
    - the names of the AUTHORS, COMPOSERS, EDITORS and of the PERFORMERS (when the piece is associated to an album); - the labels. Free search words recognizes a minimum of 3 characters. The words entered individually, separate from space, according to the criterion OR are looking for (eg. sun, sea, find the songs that recall the sun or the sea). If you want to find songs that match more than one word (AND), after the space separating the words should be added to + (ie. Sun + sea will find the songs that evoke the sun and the sea even in the same song) . If you want the exact meaning of key words should be put in quotes (eg "60 Years" find out exactly the tracks of 60 years, 60+ years are the songs that contain both 60 that years , but then that may not be consequential: es . in the description could be "50 to 60 year track bpm. If you search for songs that recall a word but not another (NOT), after the space separation should be added to - (for eg. Sun-sea find the songs that recall the sun but not the sea). To find an exact phrase (eg a title) you must enclose it in quotes. Results are sorted by the best match.

  • What does the ATMOSPHERE query index?

    The sounds which compose a piece of music act, causing several and different psycho-physical reactions: music can evoke an event, an image, a historical period or a particular mood. The ATMOSPHERE query tries to suggest "moods" which can be associated to each single track.

  • What does the RYTHM field index?

    The rythm of the piece, not to be mistaken for the genre.

  • What does the ORCHESTRATION query index?

    The instruments which are used in the piece.

  • Which is the criterion you used to classify the pieces by orchestration?

    The presence or not of a particular instrument in the piece is indexed by the field named "orchestration". However, since it can be useful to find pieces in which a particular instrument has a main role, we have also identified three queries for some instruments. For example:
    - piano (there is piano in the piece) - piano LEAD (the piano can be a main instrument in the piece) - piano SOLO (there is only piano in the piece, without other instruments)

  • What does the PRODUCT query index?

    By "product" we distinguish three categories:
    1) the product either broadly speaking or the consumption article the music is meant for: for instance a car, a perfume, nappies;
    2) the final produsct which will include the music: for instance a documentary, a TV signature tune, an institutional video or a report which therefore simply uses backgrounds.
    We start from the principle that every piece of music can be suitable for some products, but not for others. However one must consider that cataloguing according to such criterion is perhaps one of the most subjective, therefore we reccomend not to start from the PRODUCT query to do your first screening.

  • What does the LYRICS query index?

    If the piece is sung there may also be lyrics. The LYRICS query indexes every single word in the lyrics.

  • I have a certain query in mind, but it is not present among the options.

    We suggest verifying if there are any synonyms which can be found in the various queries. For instance if in ATMOSPHERES you look for the word "exciting", since this word has several meanings we may have preferred to use words which are more indicative, such as "Sensual" or "Energetic".
    If there aren't synonyms, it could mean that in our database there is no piece with those characteristics.

  • I have individuated a piece which in in my opinion could be better indexed. May I point it out?

    If you believe that a particular piece is not indexed in a complete way or if you wish to suggest any key words which could be associated to the piece, we shall be very grateful if you send us your suggestion to info@preludiomusiclibrary.com specifying the title of the track.

  • What does the MUSIC GENRE query index?

    It indexes the music genres the single track belongs to. We work every day so that all music genres should be present. Actually all the genres catalogued up to the time you are reading this answer are included.
    A track can be associated to several music genres.
